Have you ever thought about how you could potentially leverage your summer holidays to maximise your financial wellness? How is that even possible? In today’s vlog I’m going to share with you two really simple ways that you can actually get some really good progress, I guess, out of your financial wellness from summer holidays.
First of all, because we’re in Summer holidays, we’re often in a different flow. We’re not in the, Monday to Friday school, pick up, drop up and all the routine that goes with that, we’re in a different flow and it allows us sometimes to create that space to see other things that we might not see because we’re in that routine and we know how things flow.
So this shakes things up as such, and we can often use that time to make observations that we might not have seen in the ordinary day to day. Some of those things can look like maybe getting some insight as to what financial wellness looks like for you. By that I mean, what are the things, the moments and the people that happen during your Summer holidays where you think, I really wish there was more of that in my life.
Maybe it is more time outdoors with friends. Maybe it is more time in the evenings just to chill. Maybe because you have less hustle and bustle with your school routine that you actually have a sense of being able to breathe. Maybe the morning routine is very different and you’re getting a chance to meditate a little bit.
Maybe go for a walk while the kids have some screen time, whatever it is Summertime can often be a gift to us to present us with an opportunity to see what are the things in our life that we really value? What are those things that we really want more of in our lives?
Then this raises the question of how can I make more of those things, make space for more of those things in my life?
So it’s a great way to really reassess as to how things are currently and how you could improve the way things are flowing in your life right now to get that increased level of financial wellness. An increased level of financial wellness does not always equate to more money. Sometimes it’s about doing more of the things that really juice us and really fill our buckets up in a way that nourishes and nurtures us and we feel more alive.
The second thing is that because summer generally, fingers crossed, has better weather, we tend to spend more time outdoors. So in Summertime, we tend to be out and about more. We tend to meet people more, even if it’s our neighbours just out in the street, or whether we’re out with family, friends, etc. Being at barbecues, parties, days out or events of different sorts, we tend to have a very different mix of people that we see and chat with. Hence we tend to have a very different flow of conversations, and those conversations can be really enriching.
They can vary from presenting you with possibilities and options of diversifying your income. So perhaps you’re in the self employed bracket and the work that you’re doing is not paying the bills. It’s a struggle and you have contemplated the idea of maybe taking on a number of hours per week to give you that steady income so you have a better sense of flow of money in your business. Maybe one of those conversations leads you to somebody else who is looking for somebody to do something that you could do in your sleep and you think, wow, that’s it.
Or it could involve conversations around investments. So maybe some of the people in your circle have dabbled in different things. It might be all sorts of different things from crypto to property to shipping containers to vending machines to who knows what. These can be really interesting conversations to have. They can be very educational and they can open up thoughts for you as to whether those particular ideas that they’re talking about really are of interest to you. So somebody might mention a particular investment option, you know, immediately for whatever reason, it’s a no for you. Or somebody else might mention something and you think that sounds really interesting and you’d like to find more information about that.
So Summertime with more outdoor time, more interacting with people that we don’t necessarily see so much of throughout the rest of the year, offers us those opportunities to have those conversations, to present those opportunities to us as to how we can potentially expand our financial wellness, upgrade our financial wellness, or revisit it in a way we haven’t thought about before.
