From Panic to Power: Transforming Your Relationship with Money

money matters, personal finance, debt, financial challenges, financial freedom

Money matters are one of the top sources of mental ill health. Money is also one of the top reasons for divorce. So is it any surprise that many of us spend a significant portion of time worrying about money? I think not. What’s more is that for many people money is a taboo subject so they bottle it up and keep that worry, anxiety and stress to themselves. This further compounds the impact of the situation.

How can you get yourself from a position of financial worry to a place where you feel perfectly relaxed about your money matters? In my opinion, the first step is to acknowledge the situation. If you’ve had your head in the sand on this, start by acknowledging the level of stress this is causing you.

The next step for you may be to share this burden with a trusted friend who will provide a non-judgemental ear to listen and let you offload the weight of this. Often when you verbalise it, it takes some of the power out of it. A 3rd party perspective can be very valuable and provide fresh insight as to options available to you.

Then one of my favourite quotes from Martin Luther Kind “You don’t have to see the whole staircase to take the next step”. Figure out what your next step is and one by one start to nudge yourself out of where you are. If you are unsure what the best thing to do is, I always recommend a walk to clear your head and sometimes in the most unexpected situations the next step comes to you and off you go. One step at a time you will get on top of the situation.

You will be amazed over a short period of time the progress you can make. Once you have acknowledged the situation, it frees you to start working through it and it is with action that you will conquer it. You will access the level of financial wellness you desire.
